Power augmentation of ducted wind turbines for urban structures: Experimental, numerical, and economic approaches

Recent development in using wind turbines for urban areas results inserting inside buildings. As buildings' walls may act as a duct the turbine, this study focuses on ducted turbine with fixed geometry. A method is organized achieving improved generated power and speed augmentation geometry of regardless type which aim building designers. Using porous disc (PD) instead rotor makes cost time effective. PDs within help estimate any given duct's maximum available extraction capability. In addition, experimental numerical tests examine effect solidity performance diffuser augmented corresponding economic analysis. Both agree that coefficient highly depends solidities PD. The PD 0.3 by up to 30%. Nevertheless, some cases, employing can contribute reduction if exceeds critical value. smoke visualization technique helps vortex study. Economic assessment three scenarios belonging Germany Italy shows 15.3% decline per electricity production. payback period decreases 3.42 years, 7.68 months, 6.36 months Scenarios 1, 2, 3.
